Overdue City Library Books!

Hello :)

Just another reminder that some children didn't bring back their City Library book on our 2nd library walk (of 3) this week. As we won't be walking down for our final visit for another three weeks, these overdue books will likely incure fines if they are not returned this week. There are two options if your child has not yet returned their books from the first visit in late April:

1) Return them to me this week at school and I'll drive them down.
2) Return them yourself this week.

Hopefully everyone will remain library late book fine free :)

Fun Day Friday

This Friday is Brooksbank's annual 'Fun Day'. Parents are encouraged to spend the morning with their child going from station to station having fun :) Unlike some of your Kindergarten experiences, parents are not required to each take care of a small group of children all morning. Here are some points about the day:

*I'll be taking attendance at the usual times Friday. Students must check in with me in the morning, before they get their 'passport to fun' and we head off on the parade.
*We'll walk as a class throughout the parade route. Parents are welcome to walk with us!
*On returning to the school, children will be dispursed and they'll go to many different stations according to their own interests. They may choose to go with their parent(s), or with a friend(s).  Mr. Baker and Mr.Karr will each be running a different station all morning.
*After some time for station rotations in the morning, there will be a bell and studnets will return to our classroom for a snack and check-in.  After which we will proceed as a class down to the grass field for hula-hoop competitions, grade 7 tug-a-war, balloon toss, and pre-school races.
*Lastly, after all activities are done. I will be taking lunch attendance in our classroom. Children will be dismissed and checked off one at a time by me personally in my room so as to make sure everyone is safely dismissed from the school with a trusted parent at 12:30.pm. Please do not leave the school with your child until you have spoken with me directly and I have checked off your child :D

Shoe boxes for science

Dear Parents

There have been some slight changes to the schedule, which has caused the science projects to be moved to next Tuesday.  I have only been able to get a hold of a few boxes, so please send one over to the class if you are able to.

Thanks, Trevor

Science diorama activity

Dear Grade 1 Parents

On Thursday May 10th, the grade 1's will be creating their own insect habitats!  This will be created out of shoe boxes or large cereal containers.  If you are able to bring in either of those by Wednesday, it will help out a lot!  I will be going to shoe stores over the weekend to collect some boxes.  If you have any extra or other items that can be used for crafts, feel free to bring them into the classroom.

Thanks, Trevor Baker

Symbols of Canada

This is a neat iPad activity we did to show symbols of Canada pictorially. We used an app called Comic Life to gage prior learning, and show what we know.

Writing

At this point in the grade 1 year....children are branching out a little more with their writing. There is still a lot of 'invented' spelling and grammar stumbling; but words are more recognizable and ideas are expressed in more coherent forms :) An exciting time.

Tuesday April 24nd Notes

Tomorrow, Tuesday April 24, the class will be making our first City Library trip. If you had filled a new library card application last week, the cards will be already at the library for children to pick up tomorrow during our visit. If your child already has a library card at home, please send it along to school tomorrow for the library visit. We will be walking rain or shine to the library so children need to be dressed for the weather :)

Correction: Last week the school office announced that Marble Slab ice-cream was being sold last Tuesday...but it is actual this Tuesday April 24nd that it will be sold ($2).
